It took a while for this lovely lake place to form. Maples had to push up and twist around. Before that, cedars and yellow birch stretched and curved into their current poses. Of course, the ice from way back gouged out Deeryard Lake just so, a place for walleye, swimmers, boaters, skiers, etc. Then, more recently, a country road wound back in. A roughed in driveway was punched in and a rope swing went up. The only owners so far have camped on the land: it’s pure Northwoods, 175’ of frontage and 2.4 acres, awaiting your vision. Build the getaway place or the retirement home. The rope swing is worn out, but the vibe of taking it easy, getting back to basics, thrives. Come find the pace you’ve been seeking. There’s lots to discover here: The ol’ maples have sweet sap in their veins for morning coffee. Blue spotted salamanders bury in the winter, actually freeze, and in a miraculous alchemy come forth in the spring. Orchids burst forth like clockwork year in and year out. Buried too is power, phone and fiber optic: way out here connect to the world just as fast as you like. But better to disconnect a bit: get the dock in, cup of hot something and dangle toes in the clear water. Let the dreams and big ideas filter through the clearing mind. Or, just attend to that which is all around: dragonflies emerging, trees creaking in the wind, wood smoke, calling loons, downy flakes.
