About Lake Rabun
On the Edge of the Chattahoochee National Forest

Located in the northeast corner of the state, Lake Rabun is a twisting 835-acre mountain lake with 25 miles of shoreline in Rabun County.

It is the third reservoir in a series of six lakes on the Tallulah River. Lake Rabun was built in a deep valley located along a 10-mile section of the river.

The lake is long and narrow with miles of steep, rocky shoreline. Lake Rabun is owned and operated by Georgia Power.

Excellent Fishing and Camping

Are you interested in testing your fishing skills? Fishing enthusiasts will have an excellent opportunity to catch white bass, spotted bass, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, redear, walleye, and catfish on Lake Rabun.

Boat fishing is excellent, and several locations provide excellent bank fishing. Nacoochee Park is a unique recreation area for picnicking and bank fishing, with a beautiful view of Nacoochee Dam.

Rabun Beach Recreation area offers camping, hiking, and swimming, as well as about 80 tent and trailer campsites. Terrora Campground, on the north side, has about 50 campsites fully equipped with electricity and water hookups, tables, and grills.

For those geocachers out there, there are nearly 30 caches to discover within a few miles.

Local Events and Popular Tourism Spots

For years, Lake Rabun residents have held a unique Fourth of July celebration that includes a wooden boat parade that follows the lake's shoreline and prizes awarded for boat and boathouse decorations.

The Rabun Ramble Road Race is a unique tradition, with 5K and 10K races that wind along the shores of the north side of the lake. The race is a marathon qualifier that attracts competitive runners and local families alike, with attendance growing close to 1,000.

The Moonrise Distillery in Rabun County has been around since the 1950s. They still create bourbon, rye, vodka, gin, and brandy using the double-distillation process. Their venue features an 80 foot long covered front porch with a view of Black Rock Mountain, which often hosts live music events.
