Lake Mitchell covers 5,850 acres with 147 miles of shoreline. This lake is also the fifth reservoir in a chain of six on the Coosa River, beginning with Weiss Lake on the Georgia border and ending with Jordan Lake about 20 miles farther south.

Extremely fertile, Lake Mitchell supports high densities of sport fish and forage species, including largemouth bass, spotted bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, catfish, walleye, striped bass, and white bass.

Lake Mitchell ranks as one of the top ten bass fishing reservoirs in Alabama. The first Women's BASS championship was held here in 2007.
