Jordan Lake, or "Lake Jordan" as it's commonly called by the locals, is only 25 miles due north of Montgomery, near the town of Wetumpka.
Jordan Lake is the southernmost reservoir in a chain of six on the Coosa River, beginning with Weiss Lake on the Georgia border.
Known for its predictable year-round water levels, Jordan Lake covers about 6,800 acres with a shoreline of about 188 miles, all in Elmore County. The average depth of the lake is 35 feet.
Owned and operated by Alabama Power, Jordan Lake is an excellent recreational lake. The lake has two public boating access sites, Bonner's Point on the west side and Rotary Landing on the east, as well as several private marinas.
A home and boat owners association spearheads lake cleanups, monitoring of water quality, coordination with emergency management organizations, and regularly performs a number of community projects.
One of the 11 lakes on the Alabama Bass Trail, Jordan Lake is extremely fertile, supporting high densities of sport fish and forage species, including largemouth bass, spotted bass, bluegill and other sunfish, crappie, catfish, walleye, striped bass and white bass.
Jordan Lake was the location of the 2004 Bass Masters Classic Tournament.
Popular non-game fish include channel catfish, blue catfish, and flathead catfish. Primary forage species include both threadfin shad and gizzard shad.
