About Long Lake

An Adirondack Vacation Destination

Long Lake is in the heart of the Adirondacks in central New York state. It covers 4,077 acres total and has 35 miles of picturesque shoreline.

Although classified as a lake, Long Lake is a glacial widening of the Raquette River, which accounts for its average depth of 13 feet despite being surrounded by mountains.

Long Lake is surrounded by formidable forests, including Sargent Pond Wild Forest, William C. Whitney Wilderness, and High Peaks Wilderness.

Plattsburgh, New York is less than two hours away with big-city attractions and amenities.

Fishing and Boating

Long Lake is also known for its fantastic fishing. Anglers will find a public boat launch in Long Lake, allowing larger boats out on the water. Fish in the lake include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, bullhead, yellow perch, and brook trout.

Boating is the best way to experience Long Lake's unique geological features. The shoreline varies from pristine sandy beaches to towering rocky cliffs. The southern end of the lake is considered to be the most picturesque portion of the lake.

Residents can also enjoy kayaking, canoeing, and swimming.

Lush Forests

One of the forests surrounding Long Lake is the High Peaks Wilderness. It sits to the north of the lake and spans 275,460 acres across the state of New York. Many crystal-clear streams cascade from the mountain slopes, providing numerous scenic waterfalls, deep pools, and brook trout fishing opportunities.

Hiking and camping are the only recreational activities allowed by the park.

Enjoy the Scenery

Whether you are looking to buy a family home, a full-time retirement residence, or a vacation rental, Long Lake is an excellent choice.
