Nichols Lake offers residents everything they could want in a lake year-round! Summers here feature activities like water skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, kayaking, and fishing. Winters here are cold but no less fun. Residents can ice skate, ice fish, snowshoe through the nearby countryside, ride their snowmobile, or simply sit by a fire on a cold night.

The Sax Zim Bog is one of the best places in the country for bird spotting! This mishmash of biomes creates the perfect recipe for many highly sought-after species. A brief list of the birds you will see here is the Great Gray Owl, the Black-backed Woodpecker, the Boreal Chickadee, the Canada Jay, and many more. Around 30 minutes east is the Cloquet Valley State Forest. This over 300,000-acre state forest was a logging area in its past life but is now home to many different outdoor activities. Visitors can hike, kayak over 30 rivers, camp, hunt, and ride off-road vehicles on 21 miles of designated roads. The nearest town to grab a bite to eat in is Cotton, Minnesota, 13 minutes north on U.S. Highway 53. Cotton offers two eateries: Wilbert Cafe & El Toro Lounge and Whiteface Coffee Counter. The Dawghouse Bar & Grill is in Cotton, Minnesota, 11 minutes south of Nichols Lake along Highway 53.
