Mud Lake is located a little over 10 minutes outside of Litchfield, MN. It is around an hour and a half east of Minneapolis, MN. Litchfield Township was first platted in April 1858 and went through multiple name changes. At first, it was known as Ripley, named for the lake that borders the city. It was then renamed Ness, derived from one of the earliest settlers, Ole Halvorson Ness. In 1869, the town’s citizens voted to change the name to Litchfield in honor of the family who financed and helped design St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. Litchfield became an incorporated community in 1872. The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is an hour and 42 minutes west in Minneapolis. Meeker Memorial Hospital & Clinics is located just over 10 minutes north in Litchfield.
