On the Water Fun

Little Ball Bluff might be small at 37 acres, but it has a large number of options for water sports and fishing. The lake has a max depth of 49 feet and clear blue water for swimming, boating, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing.

Anglers can find black bullhead, bluegill, brown bullhead, largemouth bass, northern pike, pumpkinseed, rock bass, yellow bullhead, yellow perch, and more.

Many homes have docks to easily explore the water, but a public access point is on the northeastern side of the lake.

Around the Area

There are also dozens of other lakes to fish in nearby. One of the biggest and most well-known is Mille Lacs Lake, which includes over 100,000 acres to swim, water ski, boat, and kayak while also containing over 30 species of fish.

When you’re in the area, head to the Mille Lacs Indian Museum to learn about the Ojibwe through life-sized dioramas and mannequins in a replication of a village.

Visit Grand Rapids

If you’re interested in learning the history of logging in this part of the state, head down to the Forest History Center. You can see a recreation of a white pine logging camp from 1900, listen to stories from loggers and forest service patrolmen from different eras, or get a bird’s eye view from a 100-foot fire tower.

Follow the yellow brick road to the Judy Garland Museum, where you can get a glimpse at the world’s largest Judy Garland and Wizard of Oz collection, including the world-famous ruby-red slippers from the movie.
