Lake Irene is in Palatine, Illinois, just under 45 miles from Chicago. Named after statesman Daniel Pope Cook, Cook County is the United States’ second-most populous county with a population of 5.15 million people.

The closest major airport is O’Hare International, under 20 minutes away. Urgent care can be provided at Northwest Community Hospital, 11 minutes away.

Urban Paradise

Lake Irene and its sister lake, Donut Lake, are part of the Twin Lakes Recreation Area. Lake Irene has no fish, but Donut Lake offers bluegill, walleye, yellow perch, channel catfish, common carp, black crappie, and largemouth bass.

While residents can't use a motorized boat or bring a boat on either lake, paddleboats and kayaks are available for rent. Other amenities here include a restaurant, a nature walk, and a golf course.

One of the top attractions is Navy Pier which offers tons of rides, including a Ferris wheel that gives a beautiful view of Lake Michigan and the rest of the city.
