  • Interesting facts: Nickajack Lake was named after a Civil War leader and his "band of renegades" who hid in the nearby Nickajack Cave.
  • History: Nickajack Dam construction began in 1964. It was built to replace Hales Bar Dam which was outdated and leaking. This project, which initially cost $73,000,000 took 6.7 million man hours to finish. Filling the reservoir began on September 14, 1967. Two days later, the lake was full.
