When searching for properties in this area, you will find most available real estate listings along the Northern North Shore on the Arrowhead Multiple Listing Service. However, from Silver Bay south, you will find more in the Duluth MLS. Look under either Lake County or Cook County.

As you head north from Duluth toward Canada, the scenery over Lake Superior begins to mesmerize. Rugged, rocky terrain, cascading waterfalls and gorges that drop from sight make up the land in this beautiful northeastern corner of Minnesota. Waterfront homes along Lake Superior on this southern part of the North Shore have as many varied settings as you could imagine. Some are perched high above the ocean-like waters with seemingly endless views, while other lakefront retreats can be hidden in dense woods on large tracts of acreage, hardly visible to passers-by.

The largest community along the North Shore is Two Harbors with just over 3,500 residents, followed closely by Silver Bay at about 2,000. Lakefront real estate can also be found in the smaller hamlets along the shore of Lake Superior, and inland lakes and rivers host numerous unique waterfront properties throughout the area.

Over the past several years, Grand Marais has gained a reputation as an artist's community, and a place that is a bit removed from the hectic life many of us have become accustomed to. Surrounded by the beauty of Lake Superior, Superior National Forest and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, the Northern North Shore, including Lutsen, Hovland, Tofte, Schroeder and Grand Portage is a bit like the scenic towns of the Colorado Rockies before everyone found out about them and wanted to live there.

But people are discovering the beauty of the area, and waterfront real estate prices have risen substantially in the past few years, both on Lake Superior and the inland lakes off the Gunflint Trail. Lakefront real estate developers have also caught the wave and are building waterfront log structures, townhouses and condos along the North Shore.
