About Sunapee Lake

Under an Hour from Manchester

Sunapee Lake is the 5th largest lake of New Hampshire and one of the most popular destinations of the lake region.

With small-town conveniences in Sunapee, you often won’t have to leave the comforts of the lake. The New Loudon Hospital or Eagles Nest Airport is a short drive away. Under an hour’s drive to Manchester will give you access to big-city establishments and a busy nightlife scene.

A Massive Lake

Sunapee Lake encompasses 4,090 acres stretching for approximately 10 miles. It is 37 feet deep on average but can be as deep as 104 feet. The Sunapee Lake Dam controls water levels.

The lake has six different islands; Little Island was once home to a bowling alley in the 1800s.

All Kinds of Recreation

The lake is not only a gorgeous location but also a recreational hot-spot. Sunapee Lake is a go-to location for boating, fishing, or swimming in an upbeat environment.

You will see people water skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, or windsurfing atop the waters all summer long. When the cold weather comes, the lake freezes over for ice skating, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and more.

Go to Sunapee Lake’s Dewey Beach for a vast stretch of sand, clear waters, and provided chairs and umbrellas. Sunapee Harbor is a lovely place to stop by; it offers kayak and boat rentals, shops, restaurants, live music, lake tours, and dinner boat cruises.

Fishing and More

Fishers and recreational boaters can use the Lake Sunapee Public Boat Launch, Sargent’s Marina, or Bob’s Beacon Marina to launch their boats. Anglers flock to Sunapee Lake for its stock of giant bass, trout, and salmon.

Visit Mount Sunapee State Park during the summer for hiking, camping, lift rides to the summit, zip-lines, mini-golf, mountain biking, or a tree-top obstacle course. During the winter, the mountain turns into a location for winter sports like skiing and snowboarding.

The nearby Baker Hill Golf Club is home to a scenic 18-hole course that honors the natural features of the New England landscape.
