The lake has multiple islands, including Loon Island, Three Islands, Pot Island, Hog Island, and Mohawk Island. There are also two public beaches along the lakeshore at Ahern State Park and Bartlett Beach.

The top attraction is the independently owned Red River Theatre. This theatre offers screenings of independent films as well as classic movies.
