{"id":56,"date":"2014-04-23T14:06:32","date_gmt":"2014-04-23T14:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakehomes.com\/info\/articles\/?p=56"},"modified":"2025-11-24T15:10:50","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T21:10:50","slug":"if-you-could-improve-your-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lakehomes.com\/info\/lifestyles\/if-you-could-improve-your-life","title":{"rendered":"If You Could Improve Your Life"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> <strong><em>This article was last updated on August 27, 2019. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2014, I was visiting lake <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lakehomes.com\/agents\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">real estate agents across Georgia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and traveling on I-20 toward Atlanta when I saw a billboard that read,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b><i>If You Could Improve Your Life, Would You?\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I don\u2019t know what it was advertising but WOW! As I drove, and since, I\u2019ve really given that question some deep thought.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, I bet most people would quickly say, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOf course I\u2019d improve my life! What a stupid question.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But I propose that <\/span><b>most people are telling a lie. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not just to others, but to themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In real estate, we see home buyers who have found a home that is as perfect as can be (since nothing is 100% perfect), but just can\u2019t emotionally commit to buying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We see sellers, with their lives on hold until they can sell a house, who won\u2019t admit the emotional ties that lead them to make counter-offers they know will be rejected.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I run across real estate agents who blame the economy, the competitors, their broker, the buyers, and the sellers for their woes<\/span>. Yet the same agents<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> never seize opportunities to gain market share, find a better brokerage, or teach themselves new skills.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not improving your life is easy<\/span><b>.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It <\/span><b>feels comfortable<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>comfortable feels safe (even when it often&nbsp;is not<\/b>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I know people from all walks of life who claim they want something better, something new, some fresh opportunity. Some even tell me they pray for blessings and opportunities for themselves or their families.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But opportunities involve change and <\/span><b>change is uncomfortable (even painful)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to people<\/span>. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No matter how much they dream of a better life.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When presented with an opportunity, I believe some people actually wish or pray for the pain of change to go away more than they seek strength to overcome their self-created discomfort. For many, <\/span><b>their answered prayers don\u2019t bring progress, but rather the removal of fear by their rejection of opportunities.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I like to think I embrace opportunities instead of hiding from them<\/span>,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as the opportunity of growing Lake Homes Realty as a business. It has required me to emotionally and professionally grow, to endure the pain of lessons learned, to fail in front of others, and to get up and do better.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It takes a steady, conscious effort. I find I must be diligent in seeking the right paths of opportunity<\/span> to <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">avoid the twin gutters of false security and blind entrepreneurialism.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So like the billboard asked, I ponder for myself, our team, and the real estate agents I meet each week:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you could improve your life, would you really do it?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or would you stay where you are, finding ways to believe and embrace your fears?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are tough questions. We should ask them every day.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Glenn S.
