About Cedar Lake

Near the Indiana-Illinois State Border

Cedar Lake is 794 acres with six miles of shoreline. This natural, glacial lake was once a large block of ice left when the glacier receded after thousands of years.

The lake is just a few miles east of the Indiana-Illinois state border. This makes it an excellent residence for commuters in Chicago, Illinois, or Gary, Indiana.

A Day on the Lake

Fishing, boating, and golf are the main activities that residents enjoy on Cedar Lake. The shallow waters make it a perfect oasis for kayaking, canoeing, sailing, jet-skiing, and fishing. Pontooning and power boating are also allowed on the lake.

The South Shore Country Club was established in 1928 and sat on the southern shore of Cedar Lake. The 18-hole golf course is great for testing your golf skills, but it also has excellent views of the lake. There is also a marina and kayak/paddleboard rental business if you want to try out a new hobby.

Fishing is popular here, with some large crappies being the main draw for local anglers. Other sport fish include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegills, and an occasional white perch.

Things To Do

A handful of restaurants, shops, and lodging sit right on the shoreline of Cedar Lake. You can enjoy a mid-day lunch and picnic on the shore or stop by boat and pick your order.

Never Leave the Water

Whether you are looking to buy a family home, a full-time retirement residence, or a vacation rental, Cedar Lake is an excellent choice.
