The waters of Skokie Lagoons sit just 20 miles north of Chicago’s city center and two miles west of Lake Michigan. Conveniently located next to two of Illinois’s top attractions, Skokie Lagoons are home to some of the most desired property of Chicago suburbs.

The bustling scene of Chicago features an endless variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment. You will also find amenities like hotels, hospitals, or the O’Hare International Airport.

How the Lagoons Came About

Skokie Lagoons claims 894 acres of North Chicago, featuring seven pools of water that cover 242 acres combined.

Initially, valleys from a glacial drift were filled by the Chicago River to create a bay. When water levels receded, the area became a marsh, but by 1933 a 10-company crew dug out the marsh to create Skokie Lagoons.

Famous for its excellent catches of largemouth bass, walleye, and channel catfish, the lagoons also house northern pike and bluegill.
