Weiss Lake, Alabama

About the Area

Located  in northeast Alabama on the Alabama-Georgia border, Weiss Lake covers  some 30,200 acres and offers close to 450 miles of shoreline. Formed  from the waters of the Coosa, Chattooga, and Little Rivers, Weiss Lake  was created in1961 and named after F.C. Weiss, who was Alabama Power's  Chief Engineer at the time. One can travel the 52 mile long Weiss Lake  and see just how much this body of water has to offer.

Known  as the "Crappie Capital o fthe World," Weiss Lake offers some very  attractive fishing opportunities to those throughout the Southeast. The  best time for fishing crappie is said to be between February and May of  each year. With many marinas and campgrounds, visitors who are looking  to camp, picnic, boat, or sail have plenty of locations to choose from.

Cherokee County, home of Weiss Lake,  also offers white water rafting, great rock climbing at the famous  Cherokee Rock Village, and numerous other outdoor activities. There is  also the Little River Canyon National Preserve within Cherokee County.  Here you can find sandstone cliffs, picnic areas, and an eleven mile  drive through the picturesque Alabama forest.

Those  looking for secluded vacation homes should look into what Weiss Lake  has to offer. Whether you are interested in renting a waterfront home  for the weekend, purchasing land with a lakefront view, or buying a  home on the shoreline, Weiss Lake offers a nice Alabama retreat to  many.

Within a short driving  distance of both Gadsden, Alabama and Rome, Georgia, Weiss Lake offers  a great weekend getaway. Also, the surrounding towns of Centre and  Cedar Bluff present a number of other activities. It seems that Weiss  Lake will continue to offer a quiet vacation spot and maintain its  rustic and natural feel for the foreseeable future.
