Convenient Trip To Albany

Schroon Lake is an hour and a half north of Albany, New York, and just minutes from Lake George. The waterbody is in Essex County, New York, and is one of only two lakes in the county.

The historical lake was acquired by New York State in 1967 and was not opened to the public until 2006. It is now managed by Schroon Lake Association, which maintains water quality and protects the waters.

Freshwater Beauty

Schroon Lake covers more than 4,105 acres and 24 miles of shoreline. The lake is relatively deep and has a maximum depth of 152 feet and an average depth of 56 feet.

Three public boat ramps can be found on the lake in Schroon, Horicon, and Eagle Point.

Schroon Lake hosts many annual activities including the Adirondack Marathon and Schroon Lake 4th of July.

This lake is popular for the viewing of wildlife that includes whitetail deer, black bears, beavers, and otters.

Fish in the lake include largemouth and smallmouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike, and landlocked salmon.

Nearby Activities

Paradox Brewery is a common area to visit, located just seven minutes away from Schroon Lake. The brewery's foundation of beer derives from the granite 600 feet below the Adirondack Park and uses the best malts and hops.

Cascade Mountain is just 40 miles away, where you can experience 360-degree views at the summit. Trails are rated as moderate and are dog-friendly.

Just east of Schroon Lake lies Pharaoh Lake Wilderness. The wilderness covers 46,283 acres and is home to 2,551-foot Pharaoh Mountain, the highest mountain in the wilderness.

Gore Mountain is only 20 minutes away with a plethora of activities to enjoy, including mountaintop yoga, snow-skiing, and nature hikes.
