About the Area

The City of Lakes, as Minneapolis is known, didn't get its nickname haphazardly. As one of the most attractive metro areas in the country, Minneapolis has done a magnificent job of creating a vividly active lifestyle around its treasured water bodies.

In virtually a corridor of lakes, you can bike, run, inline skate or walk from Lake Harriet to Lake Calhoun, Lake of the Isles and Cedar Lake - and circle most all of them on paved waterfront paths that are great as recreational playgrounds or for people watching. Because of these lakeside arteries, the homes generally sit across the street from the water itself, but they are blessed with constantly changing scenes of seasonal landscapes, and sporting activities to match. Some of the most magnificent mansions in the Twin Cities gaze across these trails to a daily water panorama.

To be on water this close to downtown Minneapolis is about as good as it gets for convenience, and you will also find the hip shops and restaurants of Uptown only blocks away. It is truly a paradise for those - both young and old - who enjoy the active lifestyle of metropolitan living…on water!

Bordering South Minneapolis to the west is Edina. This is among the first ring suburbs that get peoples' attention when you mention you live there. It is inhabited by an abundance of professionals and top Twin Cities business executives who care about their community and their schools, keeping this city in the limelight for most every aspect of day to day life.

As you get a few miles to the west and to the south, in areas like Bloomington, Eden Prairie, and Hopkins, you will find several more lakes, and some with more aggressive recreational opportunities such as water-skiing. These suburbs offer excellent convenience in a first and second ring suburbia, with most of the housing stock from the 1960s on.

With the convenience and recreational opportunities that are offered in South Minneapolis, you will find that real estate prices tend to hold their values very well. And when homes do go on the market, they are often very quick sales.
