About Lake Greeson

Greeson the Great

Lake Greeson is a man-made reservoir in Pike County, Arkansas that is fed by the Little Missouri River.

Located around two hours southwest of Little Rock, the lake is one of the oldest reservoirs in the state.

Lake Greeson History

Martin White Greeson (1866-1949), an attorney and civil rights activist, advocated for a dam on the Little Missouri river to aid flood control and economic development. Although he did not live to see his dream become reality, the dam was constructed not long after his death. Water flow from the dam resulted in a reservoir to be named in his honor, Lake Greeson.

Created in 1950 by the Narrows Dam, Lake Greeson is divided into three layers with a distinct purpose. The bottom layer is kept full to maintain pressure to re-ensure the lake is generating electricity. the middle layer stores the power and the top layer is for flood storage.

Activities on the Lake

Lake Greeson is far more than an electrical powerhouse. It is a recreational go-to for outdoorsman as well.

With a vast variety of fish such as angler fish, bass, stripers, crappie and bluegill, the lake provides a supreme fishing experience.

Families enjoy visiting the Daisy State Park, which provides means for camping, picnicking, hiking, biking and more!

The Cinnabar Mine Trail is a nature trail that leads to an abandoned cinnabar mine that was abandoned upon the creation of the lake. For a small fee, treasure seekers and adventurers can search for treasures.

Lake Greeson is a truly mountainous joy with much to be explored.
