About Wheeler Lake

Wheeler Lake is located in north central Alabama between Florence and Decatur and is the state's second largest reservoir with 1,027 miles of shoreline.

Wheeler is one of the most popular lakes in Alabama with anglers in particular drawn to the lake for its superb fishing opportunities for largemouth bass, as well as bluegill, catfish, crappie, sunfish, and sauger. Wheeler Lake once held the world record blue catfish, weighing 111 pounds.

Other recreational activities on the lake include swimming, boating, and skiing.

Outside the lake there are numerous parks, golf courses, and Wheeler National refuge.
